Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance!" Martha Graham
This workshop was born from the desire to bring together two seemingly distant dance techniques—the visceral depth of the Graham technique and the urban energy of Hip Hop into a single vision, to discover the connections that make them more complementary than one might think.
In the first hour, we will explore the Graham technique by studying its core principles, such as contraction and release, and comparing them to Hip Hop steps. This hour will be dedicated to understanding movement and how different parts of the body can be expressed in opposition to one another in space.
In the second hour, we will dive deep into the world of Hip Hop, gaining knowledge of its foundations like bounce, isolations, and basic steps and then uncover the connections with the Graham technique.
This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to listen to their body and let it dance. No prior experience is needed in either Graham or Hip Hop, just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to explore two different worlds… and maybe discover that they’re closer than they seem.
At the end of the session, we’ll share a small moment together with herbal tea and dried fruit to integrate, chat, and gently savor what has emerged through movement.
